CJM Builders has worked out of North Reading since 1992, and most of the homes we remodel are within a short drive of our Main Street shop. We are a local contractor in the truest sense: our crews live in these towns, pull permits at these town halls, and know how a 1920s colonial here is framed differently than a 1960s split-level a few miles up the road. That knowledge goes into every kitchen, bath, and addition we remodel, and into the custom homes we build on open lots and teardown lots in these same towns.
We serve North Reading and the surrounding Middlesex and Essex County towns — Andover, Middleton, Reading, Wakefield, and Wilmington, plus the communities nearby. Wherever the job is, the same White Glove Five-Step Process travels with us: Survey, Strategize, Solidify, Secure, and Showcase. You get the same design-led planning, the same licensed and insured crews, and the same finish on a project two minutes away or twenty.
The Towns We Serve
Below are the towns we serve most often. Pick yours to see how we approach the homes and the permitting in your community. Don’t see your town? We work throughout the area — reach out and we’ll tell you straight whether we’re the right fit.
- North Reading, MA Our hometown since 1992 — Main Street shop and Design Center. Mid-century ranches and capes, antique colonials near the Town Common. View North Reading
- Reading, MA A dense old streetcar suburb of Queen Anne Victorians and tight in-town lots, three miles southwest of our shop. View Reading
- Andover, MA Antique colonials, Shawsheen Village’s planned 1920s streets, and historic-district homes that demand a careful hand. View Andover
- Wilmington, MA Our closest neighbor, two miles away, with everything from 1950s split-levels to brand-new colonials. View Wilmington
- Wakefield, MA The lake town: ornate Victorian-era homes ringing Lake Quannapowitt and Crystal Lake. View Wakefield
- Middleton, MA Rural Essex County, half-acre lots, and colonial-era farmhouses near the Ipswich River. View Middleton
The Same Standard, Close to Home
Being close matters more than people think. A contractor based in your area shows up on time, keeps the project on schedule, and heads off the surprises that trip up an out-of-town crew. That local knowledge keeps your remodel out of trouble:
- Crews who live in these towns and pull permits at your town hall
- On a first-name basis with the local building inspectors
- Knows the housing stock, from 1920s colonials to 1960s split-levels
- Fluent in local quirks — wetland setbacks, historic districts, century-old plaster
- The same design-led planning, licensed crews, and finish — two minutes away or twenty

Service Area FAQs
Do you charge for travel to my town, or only serve North Reading?
No travel charges for the towns we serve — North Reading, Andover, Middleton, Reading, Wakefield, Wilmington, and surrounding communities. We’ve worked out of North Reading since 1992, and most of these towns are within a fifteen-minute drive of our shop. If you’re nearby but not on the list, contact us and we’ll let you know.
Are you licensed and insured across all these towns?
Yes. CJM Builders is licensed and insured, and we pull permits directly through each town’s building department. Massachusetts construction supervisor and home improvement contractor licensing covers our work statewide, so the same credentials apply whether your home is in Reading or Andover.
How do I get started?
It starts with a conversation. We’ll visit your home, listen to what you have in mind, and walk you through our White Glove Five-Step Process. From there we build a design, a budget, and a timeline before any work begins. Reach out here to set it up.
